Metropolis GZM

BACK

At the end of 2018, for nearly two weeks, the eyes of almost the entire world were on Katowice. All this thanks to the COP24 climate summit held in the capital of the Silesian Voivodeship. At that time, the Upper Silesian and Zagłębie Metropolis also took part in the promotion of the region, exhibiting a pulsating bench in a special zone, which symbolised the beating heart of the region. The author of the idea was the Emlab agency, which hired us to make it.

Scope of work

We started the works with the preparation of the installation project. Our team used 10 plywood plates, over 200 nuts, over 400 washers, 6 threaded rods, 60 meters of led tape;  the whole construction weighed about 300 kilograms. The bench was equipped with strain gauge sensors, which detected changes in pressure as soon as more people sat on the bench. Thanks to this, strain gauges could control the force of light intensity.

Effects

3rd Interactive installation during COP24 was located just in front of the entrance to the Metropolitan Zone in Katowice. The purpose of the pulsating bench was to depict  the heartbeat through light illumination. The intensity of the pulse depended on the number of people sitting on the bench. The more people there were, the clearer the light pulse was. In total, several thousand foreign guests and residents had a chance to use it. In addition, throughout the entire campaign, the Metropolis encouraged those who sat down to publish their videos and photos of #TubijeserceMetropolis in social media.
